China produces one third of global textile output in 2005

According to statistics released by the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), China’s textile output reached 26.9 million tons in 2005, which equates to almost one third of the world's total production.

Annual production in six specific categories increased 82% in the period 2000-2005, rising from 3.8 billion metres to 10.37 billion metres.

Export revenues during the same period rose from $2.8 billion to $8.48 billion.

Fabric exports in 2005 reached 15.56 billion metres valued at $15.43 billion.
