Indian textile industry to create employment

Indian garment exports reached $8.2 billion in the fiscal year 2005-06, an increase of 32% compared with the previous year.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Apparel House Auditorium of Apparel Export Promotion Council in Gurgaon, minister for Textiles, Shri Vaghela urged exporters to enhance capacities in order to generate more employment.

He also announced that government investment of Rs750 crore ($163 million) has been provided for Integrated Textile Parks, which should provide employment for 20,000 people.

He also stated that the government has launched an
Apparel Park
for Export Scheme to boost garment exports and urged the industry to take advantage of the various schemes at their disposal.
