South African manufacturing increase offset by textile decline

According to the South African statistics department, estimated manufacturing production from January to May has risen by 4.1% compared with the same period in 2005. Eight of the ten manufacturing divisions reported higher levels of production, including motor vehicles, metal products and paper products. 

The textiles, clothing, leather and footwear division reported negative growth for the period compared with the same period of 2005, an overall 0.1% loss.
