Pakistan enjoys Preferential Trading Arrangements
20/07/2006
Pakistan is seeing the benefits from its first Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Sri Lanka, which came into force in June 2005. Pakistani exports such as footwear, engineering products, sanitary goods, chemicals, leather and some textile items have been taking advantage of duty concessions in the Sri Lankan market.
In addition, negotiations for a fully fledged FTA with China are progressing well; an Early Harvest Program took effect in January. As a result Pakistani exports such as leather articles, some textile items, marble, sports goods, fruits, vegetables and mineral products will have reduced duties and all these items will be exportable duty free by January 2008.
