According to statistics compiled by the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Department and Intervention Department of Dubai Customs, counterfeit goods worth over AED14 million ($3.8 million) were seized between February and June this year. Counterfeit goods seized in June alone were worth in excess of AED7 million.

Between February and June, customs seized a total of 2,212,147 boxes containing counterfeit goods, the bulk of which were intercepted at the Jebel Ali Port and the Dubai International Airport.

CDs and automobile spare parts comprised the bulk of the counterfeit goods seized, but watches, clothing and footwear, and brand stickers were also amongst the goods discovered. The bulk of the counterfeit imports came from the Far East, followed by Central Asia and Africa.
