Textile manufacture increases in euro area in May

The euro area industrial new orders index increased by 2.3% in May compared with April. The index decreased by 0.8% in April and 1.3% in March. EU25 new orders rose by 1.5% in May, after remaining stable in April and falling by 1.1% in March.

In May, manufacturing of textiles and textile products rose by 3% in the euro area compared with April and by 2.9% in the EU25. Chemicals and chemical products grew by 1.8% and 0.9% respectively. Machinery and equipment dropped by 0.6% and 0.3% respectively.

Year-on-year, textiles and textile products gained 8.1% in the euro area and 6.9% in the EU25. Manufacturing of machinery and equipment rose by 19.2% and 17.8% respectively and chemicals and chemical products increased by 11.5% and 11.3%.
