Indian export target $126 billion
At a meeting between government officials and representatives of the commodity boards covering key export sectors such as chemicals, textiles, sports goods and leather, Indian union minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Kamal Nath urged exporters to increase exports with the hope of hitting the $126 billion mark for this financial year.
If this is achieved, the country’s merchandise exports will have doubled in three years – from a level of $63 billion in 2003-04. He assured government support for exporters and said he was confident that exports of $150 billion will be achieved before the target date of 2009.
