India and Tajikistan to strengthen trade and economic cooperation

02/08/2006

India and Tajikistan have agreed to further develop bilateral cooperation in the areas of trade, industry and agriculture. Both sides have noted that the existing volume of bilateral trade between India and the Republic of Tajikistan does not correspond to the real potential of both the countries and have proposed measures to increase the volume of bilateral trade. A protocol laying out the proposals was signed by special secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry Shri G.K. Pillai on behalf of the Indian government of India and by Minister for Economy & Trade Mr H.H. Soliev, for the Republic of Tajikistan.

Two-way trade between India and Tajikistan in 2005-06 was valued at a meagre $12.09 million. This consisted of India’s exports to Tajikistan valued at $6.2 million and India’s imports from Tajikistan worth $5.89 million.
