Kraton posts Q2 income decline

US-based performance polymer producer Kraton Polymers LLChas posted its financial results for the quarter and six months ended June 30. Total revenues for the quarter were $285.3 million compared with $269 million in the comparable period of 2005, an increase of 6%. These increases were driven by increased volumes and prices. For the first six months of 2006, total revenues increased 8% to $514.7 million.

Gross profit for the quarter decreased $13.6 million or 21% to $52.5 million compared with $66.1 million in the comparable period of 2005, as raw material inflation outpaced price increases and the company incurred several one-time restructuring charges. Gross profit for the first half decreased $11 million to $104.9 million.

Net Income for the quarter was $3.4 million, compared with $16.2 million in the comparable period of 2005. During the first six months of 2006, net income was $9.9 million versus $21.2 million for the same period of 2005.

Kraton polymers are used in a wide range of applications including adhesives, coatings, packaging, automotive and footwear products.
