Decline in Italian textile production

Reports indicate that industrial production in Italy increased by 3.7% in June compared with June 2005.

For the first six months, an increase of 2.2% was shown compared with the prior year period.

Despite this, production growth in June was offset by a 2.8% decrease for leather and footwear, while machinery was up 10.5% and rubber and plastics 7.6%.

In the first six months chemicals and synthetic materials production was up 5.3% while there was a 5.2% decrease in textiles and clothing production.
