Brazil and Egypt focus on improved bilateral relations

The Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit) and the Embassy of Egypt will hold a seminar on bilateral relations in the textile area between the two countries on August 22, in São Paulo, Brazil.

According to secretary general of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ANBA) Michel Alaby, who will speak at the event, there is potential for both countries to increase their cotton exports. He stated that Egypt could improve on the volume of cotton and cotton products it sells to Brazil, whilst there is potential for Brazil to increase its exports of short and medium staple cotton—which Egypt currently imports product from countries such as Pakistan and India. He added that Brazil's exports of other products, such as nylon, to Egypt could be improved.

Between January and July this year, bilateral trade between the two countries reached $771.3 million, an increase of 50% compared with the same period in 2005. Brazilian imports of Egyptian cotton grew 132% in the first half of the year, while imports of threads grew 37.8% and imports of fabrics 119%.

Abit is also promoting a series of similar meetings with other countries including China and Paraguay.
