Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer said during a recent visit to Shanghai that the company plans to focus on the 2008 Olympics in Beijing after its success during the World Cup and is expecting to double the number of its specialty stores in China by 2010.

In 2005, adidas became the cooperative partner with the Beijing 2008 Olympic organising committee in a sponsorship deal that is said to be worth €38 million and which has set up a mission of over 100 local Chinese people to prepare for the Olympics.

Mr Hainer said that the company currently operates around 2,500 specialty shops in 300 cities across China and plans to increase this number to 5,000 shops in 500 cities by 2010. He added that yearly sales of its products in China should reach €1 billion.
