Cannondale & Cocona collaboration for extended apparel line

22/08/2006

US-based high-performance bicycles and apparel producer Cannondale recently introduced the Carbon LE garment line featuring Traptek’s Cocona fabric which was named one of Time Magazine’s ‘Most Amazing Inventions’ of the year. For the new winter line, the design is now integrated into jerseys, jackets, tights, socks, head gear and gloves.

Cocona technology permanently embeds activated carbon, derived from coconut shells, into fibre and yarns to enhance the performance of fabrics. The new garments not only wick moisture away (45% greater wickability), but also dry quickly to keep cyclists cool and dry.

The knits trap (non-bacterial) odour and UV in the activated carbon pore structure, keeping the finished products fresh and lightweight with added UPF Coconut shells are a waste product from the coconut industry and are well-recognised as providers of activated carbon for filtering impurities from water and air, while absorbing (non-bacterial) unpleasant odours.

The yarns permanently embed particles into the fibre so that they do not wash out and work for the life of the garment.
