Schmetz launches new NIT needles

Germany-based sewing machine needle company Ferd. Schmetz has added several new needles to its range. As a result of the low friction of the surface, the new Schmetz Nit needle with a nickel-Teflon coating  is said to provide a smooth sewing process thus protecting sewing materials and thread  and leading to increased manufacturing productivity and lower costs.

Sportswear and protective clothing contains a high proportion of synthetic fibres nowadays such as polyamide, polyester and elastane and the risk of thermal damage is particularly high if too much friction energy is produced at the blade when processing such blended fabrics. In response to this  the company has developed the Teflon-coated Blukold needle with a NIT surface which is anti-adhesive and corrosion-resistant as well as wear-resistant.

The needle is said to remain cleaner for longer. As a result of its anti-adhesive properties, there are fewer skip stitches and thread breakages and even heavy and hard sewing materials are penetrated easily which means that a larger needle sizes can be used, as can thicker sewing threads.
