Growth in Chinese textile industry forecast to slow

31/08/2006

In a report released on August 25, The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) stated that although the country’s textile industry is set to further increase in the second half, growth within the sector is likely to slow, compared with the first six months of 2006.

The analysis published by NDRC reported that there are some issues affecting the textile industry at present, such as exports to EU and a slow down in the USA, increased cotton prices, etc., which are likely to have an impact on the industry.

The statistics published showed that in the period January to June, textile sales increased 23.7% year-on-year with textile and apparel exports increasing 24.5%.
