Quick estimates of index for textiles industry

The Central Statistics Organisation of the Indian government has released its Quick Estimates of Index for Industrial Production (IIP) in July. The general index stands at 233.9, 12.4% higher than the level in July 2005.
15 of the 17 industry groups included showing positive growth in July compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, including ‘Wool, Silk and Man-made Fibre Textiles’ (25%). However, ‘Leather and Leather & Fur Products’ fell 7.2% and ‘Jute and Other Vegetable Fibre Textiles (except cotton) fell 5.1%.
