Lanxess expands production for basic chemicals

20/09/2006

German chemical company Lanxess is expanding production at its
Leverkusen site of the basic chemical m-cresol for the world-wide market. The first-stage expansion of the unit will create around 15% extra capacity and construction is scheduled for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2007. The aim is to ‘debottleneck’ the unit to deal with rising demand.

There are also plans to expand the capacities of other base chemicals within the Basic Chemicals business unit.

Cresols are used in the manufacture of resins and flame retardants, among other things.
