Indian industrial production reaches new high

According to Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Kamal Nath, industrial production in
India registered a ten-year high of 12.4% in July compared with the level in July 2005. Industrial growth from April to July grew 10.6% compared with 8.9% in the same period last year.

The record high in industrial production has been propelled by the consistent high level of growth in the manufacturing sector, the minister said.

Industries that performed particularly well in July include ‘Wool, Silk and man-made Fibre Textiles’ (25%), ‘Transport Equipment and Parts’ (22.4%) and ‘Textile Products (including Wearing Apparel)’ (17.3%).

Consumer goods registered a growth of 17.9% in July compared with July 2005 and capital goods recorded a high growth of 15.4%.
