Quebec's economic growth affected by Asian competition

16/10/2006

Quebec
's economy is expected to grow by 2% in 2006 and 2.1% in 2007, according to a new report from financial group RBC.

The rise of China and India's manufacturing sectors, high energy prices, a strong Canadian currency, and a slowing US economy are all presenting challenges to Quebec's economic growth. Despite this, its manufacturing shipments are up by about 4% on a year-to date basis.

Textiles and clothing manufacturers continue to be squeezed by low-cost competitors.
