Improved Q3 sales at Columbia Sportswear
US-based active apparel and footwear producer Columbia Sportswear Company posted net sales of $454.1 million for the quarter ended September 30, an increase of 10.8% compared with $409.8 million for the same period of 2005. Net income for the quarter was $60.3 million, a 9.3% decrease compared with net income of $66.5 million for the prior year period. The company recorded a tax benefit of $5.6 million in the third quarter 2005.
Compared with the third quarter of 2005, US sales increased by 12.8% to $276.3 million, Other international sales increased by 15.1% to $57.8 million; European sales by increased 6.9% to $66.4 million and Canadian sales increased by 1.9% to $53.6 million.
Excluding changes in currency exchange rates, consolidated net sales for the third quarter increased 9.1%.
Sportswear sales increased by 16.6% to $146.6 million, outerwear sales increased by 8.1% to $217.8 million, footwear sales increased by 8.8% to $69.4 million, equipment sales increased by 150% to $4.5 million, and accessories sales decreased by 7.6% to $15.8 million compared with the third quarter of 2005.
