A number of European outdoor sports companies have now joined the “1% For the Planet” club. The club, which now has 50 European companies amongst its members, comprises businesses that have committed to positive environmental change by donating at least 1% of their annual turnover to environmental organisations worldwide.

The European outdoor sports-related companies involved are: Magic Project (distribution of ski and snowboard accessories); Nordisk Fiskeutstyr (fly fishing shop); Skim Sea Kayaks (kayak manufacturer); Finisterre (technical apparel for surfers); Loose-Fit Surfboards; Where Wise Men Fish (fly fishing travel agency); TYF group (travel and outdoor equipment); El Alto (ethically-sourced, socially responsible outdoor clothing made in Bolivia); Expedition Guides (climbing and trekking guides); Surf-Lines (outdoor shop); Mountaingirl (guiding instruction for women); Moah (snowboard clothing); and the Progression ski school.

1% For the Planet was co-established in 2001 by Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of outdoor clothing and sports gear company Patagonia, which is well known for its environmental awareness. It currently boasts a worldwide membership of over 450, which all display the 1% logo on their products and marketing material. Companies can also join at a brand level and contribute 1% of the revenues of a particular brand.
