US outdoor apparel company Columbia Sportswear is to supply jackets, trousers, hats and fleeces for more than 90 athletes, coaches and staff for the upcoming second Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge, be held in Lake Placid, New York, from January 4-6, 2007.
US bobsled and skeleton athletes will also wear Columbia clothing at international competitions in North America and throughout Europe.
The event will feature drivers piloting specially made bobsleds down Lake Placid's icy chute to raise money for the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project. The project is a non-profit organisation that sponsors and promotes the design, technology, engineering and manufacturing of bobsleds made in the United States for use in international competition. The initiative, started in 1992 by Nascar driver Geoff Bodine, has built American-made bobsleds for United States athletes competing in the World Cup, world championships and Olympic winter games.
