A new and ambitious export target has been
set by the Pakistan government, which hopes to see exports rise from the current level of $16.5 billion to $43.3 billion by 2013. Efforts will be concentrated on increasing exports within key industries including textiles, leather and leather products, meat, sporting goods and furniture.

The seven-year export plan has been devised by the country’s Planning Commission, which anticipates that GDP will grow by 15% during this period.

The export target for leather and leather products alone is $2.26 billion, an 11% increase compared with the current total of $1.09 billion.
