India’s textile exports rise

Following modest growth in 2003-04 and a decline during the 2004-05 fiscal period,
India’s textile exports have increased by nearly 22%. Exports during the 2005-2006 quota period reached $17.08 billion, up from $14.03 billion in 2004-05.

During the period April to July 2006 alone the textile sector registered over 16% growth, with textile exports reaching $6.1 billion.

India’s National Textile Policy 2000 has set an export target of $50 billion by 2010.
