Bloomberg PMI shows continued growth in Eurozone retail sales

08/12/2006

The Bloomberg Eurozone Retail Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose from 52.8 in October to 53.7 in November, with the strongest sales seen in the clothing and footwear sectors. This was the eighth successive month-on-month rise in sales.

The rise reflected a sharp improvement in sales in Germany and a more modest increase in France. In contrast, sales fell in Italy for the ninth time in the past ten months.

Measured on a like-for-like basis, year-on-year sales were up for the eighth month running, with the rate of growth rising sharply over the latest two months.

The Bloomberg PMI is a monthly survey indicating economic conditions in the euro area retail sector one month ahead of government issued figures.
