BASF raises methylamines prices

14/12/2006

German chemical company BASF is raising its prices for methylamines and methylamine derivatives as well as butylamines in
Europe with immediate effect, unless existing contracts state otherwise. The company stated that the increases are due to increased costs for raw materials, energy and logistics. Prices will increase by 20/ton for Methyldiethanolamine and N-Methylethanolamine, 50/ton for Dimethylethanolamine, 80/ton for Dimethylformamide, 90/ton for Dimethylacetamide, 100/ton for Dimethylaminopropylamine, €120/ton for Monomethylamine, 140/ton for Dimethylamine, €150/ton for Trimethylamine and Trimethylamine-Hydrochloride and 200/ton for Butylamines.

The high-grade specialty amines, which include mono-, di- and trimethylamine, are starting materials for solvents, especially for dimethylformamide (DMF). DMF is used mainly as an additive in making polyacrylonitrile fibres and leather substitutes based on polyurethane.
