Shoes and sporting goods amongst top retail performers
The latest Quarterly Business Barometer by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business shows that small- and medium-sized business confidence is returning.
Compared with last year, 42% of retailers stronger results, whilst 25% claimed worse performance than in the prior year. The remaining 33% reported little change. The strongest retail performance this season was reported by footwear, sporting goods, general clothing and auto accessory retailers.
In the longer term, 47% of all business owners expect performance to improve in a year's time, while 39% expect it to remain stable. The remaining 14% expect a weakening in business during 2007.
