Athletic footwear prices rise in 2006

According to preliminary data released by the US National Sporting Goods Association (NGSA), the average price point for athletic footwear rose by 3.4% in 2006. The report shows that the average price increased to $42.16 compared with $40.78 in 2005. In 2005, the average price point rose by 2.3% from $39.87 in 2004.

Males aged 18-24 paid the most for athletic footwear at $61.82. Among females of the same age, the highest average price point was $46.39. The 65+ group’s average price point was $46.24.
