Director of Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute receives ASTM award

Standards agency ASTM’s Committee FO8 on sports equipment and facilities has bestowed the ASTM International William F. Hulse Memorial Award on Randy Swart, director of the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute in Virginia, USA.

The committee honoured Mr Swart for his “outstanding contributions to the development, promotion and use of voluntary full consensus standards that enhance safety in sports and recreation”.

Mr Swart has been director of the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute since 1989—a non-profit organisation that serves as a consumer advocacy programme and a technical resource for bicycle helmet information.
