President of Gap steps down

The board of directors of clothing and accessories retailer Gap Inc. has announced that president and chief executive officer of the company, Paul Pressler will step down by mutual agreement, effective immediately. He has also,resigned his seat on the company’s board. The company’s current non-executive chairman Robert Fisher will serve as president and CEO on an interim basis. Mr Fisher joined the company as a store manager in 1980 and worked his way up through the company’s merchandising ranks. He has served on the company’s board of directors since 1990.
