Organisers of the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, held in Salt Lake City
from January 27-30, have reported a record 17,973 total attendees, up 24% compared with the 2006 event. It attracted 5,602 buyers, up 14% from 2006.

A total of 815 exhibitors were present, including 274 new exhibitors and 152 expanded booth presentations, such as those run by Merrell, Snowpeak, Keen and Crocs.

Sustainability was the hot topic at the show, with a selection of ‘green’ products, new recycled-paper show badges, sustainability seminars and industry awards. It kicked off with the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Industry Breakfast featuring dean of the Sustainable MBA Program at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute Jill Bamburg. She praised the outdoor industry for its commitment to sustainable business practices and urged the 620 attendees to look at new steps towards sustainability in the future.

The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) also sponsored the Carbon Neutral Challenge that ran throughout the show, with the goal of attracting 10% of the attendees to offset the carbon emissions caused by their travelling to the show. Several companies including GoLite, Outdoor Retailer, Timberland and Merrell agreed to do this.
The show also highlighted growth in a number of outdoor segments including telemark skiing, Nordic skiing, performance lifestyle apparel, footwear and paddlesports.

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market will be held from August 9-12.
