Hyosung increases spandex capacity

Korean spandex producer Hyosung Corporation has acquired Tongkook’s spandex facility in Zhuhai, China, which will add an additional 6,000 tons to the company’s spandex manufacturing capacity. With additional expansion in Korea and China, production will be increased from 54,000 tons in 2005 to 65,000 tons in 2007. 

Hyosung has expanded its spandex capacity in response to the recent rise in demand. According to industry reports, the second half of 2006 saw a reversal of the global supply/demand balance for spandex resulting in significant supply shortages due to asset shutdowns, raw material shortages and product mix (denier) shifts.
