New qualification for retailers proposed

Employers in the UK
’s apparel, footwear and textiles sectors are being urged to consider a brand new qualification for young entrants into the retail industry.

Chief executive of Skillfast-UK Linda Florance has called on businesses to join a working group in order to develop the content of the Specialised Diploma in Retail, which will be a combined vocational and academic route into the industry for 14- to 19-year-olds, stating,  "We need leading employers from apparel, footwear or textiles, to help us shape the diploma so that it truly reflects the employment needs of the retail sector.”
