Record US sporting goods sales

In its Monthly Retail Trade Survey, the US Census Bureau reported that preliminary sales from sporting goods stores reached $4.65 billion for December, up 9.7% from $4.23 billion in December 2005. The increase follows an 11% increase in November. Sales for the full year 2006 reached $35.04 billion, up 12.9% over 2005, a record high and the strongest growth reported for ten years.
