Eco-Fil uses SmartSilver nanotechnology

US-based polyester and nylon filament yarns supplier O'Mara Incorporated is to begin using custom nanoscale materials engineering company NanoHorizons, Inc.’s SmartSilver yarn in its Eco-Fil yarn line. SmartSilver is engineered at the nanoscale to impart permanent anti-odour/antimicrobial properties to natural and synthetic fibres and fabrics.
Eco-Fil is said to be the only filament yarn made from 100% post-consumer bottles.
Director of sales and marketing at NanoHorizons Dennis Schneider commented, "The combination of Eco-Fil and SmartSilver enables manufacturers to offer high-quality, high-performance and environmentally responsible products. SmartSilver-enhanced apparel remains odour free, creating the possibility of reducing wash cycles. Further, SmartSilver ingredients are made using lower-grade ores from silver mining that would otherwise be disposed of as waste."
