German chemicals manufacturer BASF has named Dr Friedrich Wirsing to the company’s supervisory board, effective May 1. He was elected as a substitute member of the board by employees and will succeed Dr Karlheinz Messmer, who retired on April 30.

Dr Wirsing is a plant manager and the deputy chairman of the committee of executive representatives at BASF.
