Swedish gymnast to hit the slopes

Former Swedish gymnast Jan-Fahrenheit Betros has joined the University of Derby's course in MA Performance Sportswear Design and is now creating clothing for skiers. Having competed at international level, he was forced to give up his career as a professional sportsman due to injury. Since retiring from competitive gymnastics, Mr Betros has travelled to Australia and across Europe, spending two years working as a sportswear consultant with several specialist outdoor retailers.

He says his designs are tailored to suit the individual in contrast to many ‘off-the-peg’ skiing garments. "Current skiwear clothing on the market is all about protection and being waterproof. But, while bulky jackets and other clothes may be suitable for the professional, or skier going into adverse conditions, it does not necessarily mean that it will be suitable for the leisure skier,” he said.
