US-based producer of innerwear, outerwear and hosiery Hanesbrands Inc. is to cease production at three sewing and assembly operations in Itabo, Dominican Republic. Production will finish by September and will lead to the loss of approximately 1,400 jobs.

According to the company, in the past two years it has added new, lower-cost textile production in the Dominican Republic and Central America and is aligning its sewing operations around those fabric production centres.

Hanesbrands goods are sold under brands such as Hanes, Champion, Playtex, Bali, Just My Size, barely there and Wonderbra.
