Reebok, which until now has been importing shoes from Brazil and South East Asia to be sold in Argentina, plans to purchase a shoe factory in the country in order to start domestic manufacturing. The company has been considering the idea since 2005, when the gap between the Argentinean peso and the Brazilian real started to diminish.
Adidas and Nike have already signed agreements with local Brazilian companies operating in Argentina such as Brazilian companies Perchet and Dilly, which produce for Diadora and adidas, and Nike and British Umbro, respectively.
In 2006, the company’s Argentinean revenues totalled $250 million ($80.1 million) and it expects to sell two million pairs of shoes in the country this year. It recently opened a new store in Barrio Norte, Buenos Aires, at a cost of $2 million.
Reebok Argentina recently appointed Facundo Noel Sturla as its new marketing manager.
