Invista has signed a letter of intent for investment and transfer of land use rights to build a production complex at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. This agreement marks the next step for the company as it proceeds with a project, announced in September, to construct state-of-the-art facilities in Asia to meet the region's growing demand for adiponitrile (ADN), hexamethylene diamine (HMD), nylon 6,6 polymer, and a variety of specialty intermediate chemicals.

The new complex will deploy Invista’s advanced, proprietary butadiene-based ADN technology and is set to be the first facility of this kind to be built in Asia.

Commenting on the company’s plans Warren Primeaux, president of Invista Intermediates, said, “This is a significant and unique project; it will be not only the first plant of its kind in Asia but also the first brand-new facility built worldwide in 25 years.”

Engineering and design work for the site has already begun and the facility is expected to start up in 2010.
