Apparel, accessories and footwear retailer Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. has reported that total sales for the first quarter ended May 5 were $320.6 million, an increase of 6.9% over sales of $299.9 million during the first quarter of 2006, ended April 29.

However, the company recorded a net loss of $5.1 million compared with net income of $11.9 million in the first quarter of 2006.
