Zumiez Inc., the US retailer of sports related apparel and footwear focused on skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, motocross and BMX  has posted record results for the first quarter ended May 5.

Total net sales increased 44% to $68.8 million from $47.8 million in the first quarter of the prior fiscal year, whilst comparable store sales increased 11.3%.

Net income reached $1.6 million versus $1.1 million.

The company opened 19 new stores in the first quarter and plans to open a total of 50 new retail outlets during fiscal 2007, most of which will be opened by the end of the third quarter.
