Gildan closes manufacturing facilities

As part of its strategy to consolidate sock production at its new facility in Honduras, Canada-based activewear and apparel manufacturer Gildan Activewear is to close two sock facilities in Mount Airy, North Carolina, USA. Commenting on the closures, the company stated that the relocation of capacity to offshore facilities was necessary in order to be globally competitive. Approximately 520 employees will be affected by the closures, which will be completed by the end of August. The company will also cut retail sales and administrative jobs at its Kentucky Derby Hosiery head office in Hopkinsville , Kentucky .
