Said to be Canada's largest retailer of sporting goods The Forzani Group Ltd. has issued a statement in response to recent speculation about a possible takeover. Rumours have been circulating about several companies that have shown an interest in acquiring the company, including Cerberus Capital Management LP and Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd.

The company stated that it receives enquiries with respect to possible acquisitions or business combinations from time to time and has received such enquiries more frequently recently as it continues to perform well. However, it confirmed that none of these enquiries has resulted in a firm offer. It added that, it is not currently in negotiations with any party with respect to a business combination.
