Dow increase global acrylates prices

08/06/2007

The Dow Chemical Company has announced price increases for acrylic acid and esters, also known as acrylic monomers or acrylates, effective July 1, or as contracts allow.

Butyl Acrylate/2-Ethylhexyl Acrylate prices will increase by $0.05 per pound in North America, by €90 per metric ton in Europe, and by $120 per metric ton in Asia Pacific, the Middle East/Africa and Latin America.

The prices for Ethyl Acrylate/Methyl Acrylate/Glacial Acrylic Acid will be raised by $0.03 per pound in North America, by €50 per metric ton in Europe, and by $70 per metric ton in Asia Pacific by, the Middle East/Africa and Latin America.

“The need for these increases is driven by an industry-wide butanol and 2-ethylhexyl supply/demand imbalance,” explained global business director for the Acrylic Monomers business, Mark Bassett. “This has reached such a critical point that production is not able to meet demand. This increase also attempts to recover increases in the cost of raw materials, such as propylene and natural gas.”
