US apparel and consumer soft goods company Kellwood Company has reported lower net sales of $484.4 million for the first quarter, down from $493.8 million in the corresponding quarter last year. However, net earnings from continuing operations improved to $5.9 million versus $1.1 million, although total net earnings slipped to $7.4 million from $9.2 million.

In the company’s Women's Sportswear division, net sales decreased 3% to $272.5 million, whilst sales fell 4% in the Men's Sportswear sector.
