In view of the rupee’s significant appreciation against the US dollar in recent months, and calls for assistance from many industrial sectors, the Indian government has announced tax relief on several export products, including textiles and sporting goods.

Announcing the move, Shri Vinod Rai, secretary, Financial Sector at the Ministry of Finance, said, “In the recent months, the Indian rupee has appreciated vis-a-vis the US dollar. Exporters of goods and services from India have brought to the notice of the government the difficulties they face as a result of this rupee appreciation. The matter has been considered by the government and it has been decided to provide relief.”
