Argentina hopes to take advantage of the geographical location and expertise of its neighbour Chile to make a greater impression on the Chinese market. Leather is one of the sectors in which Argentina hopes to increase exports to China.
The province of Buenos Aires will be at the forefront of this effort to increase Argentinian products’ share of the Chinese market. The area around the capital produces more than 60% of Argentina’s exports, according to regional minister Débora Giorgi. She has been working to build links to China through Chile and recently told a local online business news resource that Chile’s openness and ties with markets in south-east Asia could offer Argentina a “unique outlet” for its finished and semi-finished goods, including leather and leather goods.
