108% earnings increase at Columbia in Q2

Oregon-based active outdoor apparel and footwear designer Columbia Sportswear Company has posted net sales of $218.6 million for its second quarter ended June 30, an increase of 3% compared with $211.6 million for the same period of 2006. Net income for the quarter was $10 million, a 108% increase compared with $4.8 million in the prior-year period.

While US sales fell 2% to $117.1 million and Canada sales dropped 5% to $11.9 million, Europe net sales increased 9% to $31.6 million and other international sales increased 14% to $58 million.

By sector, sportswear sales increased 11% to $124.4 million in the period, while footwear sales decreased 2% to $42.5 million, outerwear sales fell 8% to $39.8 million and accessories and equipment sales fell 8% to $11.9 million.
