Spain’s national basketball team, favourites to take gold at the Europe Championships next month, for which they are also the hosts, will wear kit with antimicrobial functionality.

The current world champions will wear vests and shorts manufactured in Spain using Bioactive fabric from German fabric supplier Trevira.

By applying a silver additive to the raw fibre material, Trevira claims the Spanish team’s kit will have “a permanent antimicrobial effect”.

The company has told sportstextiles.com that demand from textile manufacturers for antimicrobial products is definitely on the increase.
